We are now in week 2 and I still can’t believe this is real life. Nipsey Hussle was gunned down in front of his own store, The Marathon Clothing.
When I began my blog I vowed solely to write about things that truly mattered to me. I’ve never felt such sadness from someone I never met. It was as if he was a long lost cousin that I knew of but we never met.
On my way for ice cream, I learned about the news over the radio. We were informed he had been shot, immediately, I prayed for him.
Like, huh? Nipsey Hussle shot? No way.
As the day continued, my sisters and I were watching TV when suddenly my sister grasped while scrolling through her phone, at the point, I knew.
Nipsey Hussle passed away at the tender age of 33.
I say this once and I say this again, I’ve never felt such sadness. My entire energy was at a low and it was something I couldn’t shake off. Why is that?
I had always known of Nipsey Hussle but unfortunately, I wasn’t able to enjoy the flowers while they were here.
The entire world shifted and it literally started making sense why the world felt such grief. Nipsey worked hard to create a better opportunity for his own community.
He cared. It’s that simple.
Nipsey understood the world around him. His mission was to inspire the younger generation on how to better themselves with the world’s resources.
Outside of music, Nipsey co-founded Vector 90 a co-working space and STEM center. Alongside his family, they owned an entire shopping center. The center filled his clothing store, The Marathon Clothing, a barber shop, a beauty store, and that was only the beginning.
Watching interviews, you couldn’t help but to tune into another video right after. His personality was illuminating, calm, collective, and pure.
It hurts to see the good people in the world gone way too soon. I kept thinking, “Where on earth was I in 2018?” How on earth did I not hear off of these amazing ventures?
This one hurts to the soul. Even if you never met Nipsey, you felt his influential spirit. I felt the need to write about him because he did it!
All that he inspired to be came to light. Nipsey, I pray that you are smiling down and proud of your work. He may not be here in the physical, but his spirit is ALIVE.
Nipsey allowed gangs to finally come together after years of rivalry. He built a foundation for kids to believe in themselves and pursue a career within S.T.E.M. As I am one out of many, he helped a girl name Kiara not feel insecure about her dreams but rather push for what she believes in and let everything else unfold.
But we can’t cry for long, As Nipsey would say, “The Marathon continues.” This isn’t the end, it’s only the beginning.
I hope this will empower you to follow what’s calling you, don’t over think it, do it! You got it! You left us with so much hope Nipsey, you will never be forgotten.
If you haven’t heard of him or love his music as much as I now do, please continue streaming his music! #KEEPHISLEGACYALIVE
Long Live The Great Nipsey Hussle!
