How A Udacity Meet Up Turned Into An All Girls Club
Hope you are doing well! I'm filled with excitement as I write this next post because I feel the universe has a magical way to align our purpose at the weirdest time.
As you know, I'm currently learning how to code through the Udacity X Google program. Time has moved so fast that the end of the program is slowly creeping up, April 11th (Yikes) So! I thought creating a meet up was a great idea to have the opportunity to ask for help and connect fellow scholars together.
You never really anticipate things, you just go with the follow and whatever happens you just go with the flow. (Or at least that's how I think?)
To my surprise, the meet up turned out to be a success! The day started out with two guys and me. (Shoutout to Steve & Ty!) Slowly, more people came, again, this was just a way for me to bring a like-minded crew together to get s$*t done.
It went so smooth! We all clicked and felt comfortable to ask each other questions. (Because in coding you can get a mean headache.)
As the day went the guys that started the morning along with myself had to head out. But I noticed the more people joining were women. It didn't hit me at that moment until noticing Steve was the only guy in the room! (Lord, he was so helpful!!!)
I needed to take it all in because this was a beautiful moment, a room filled with women coding away. This is what society says women wouldn't be good at and look at us.
It was great learning about there past and where they plan to go after this program. Coding can be so scary but these women were ALL badasses! I have nothing but major respect and admire them for tackling this journey.
All I could feel is hope and acknowledgment that Hoodies & Heels is bigger than me. I hope this platform can grow into one where women all over the world in tech can call this the safe haven.
I'll continue to speak things into existence, who would've thought that a simple meet up would turn into a girls club? (Yaaaaasssssss)
