Hola, Good People!

Okay, now you know!!!! I had to I just had to! Raise your hand if you saw Black Panther over the weekend? (Raises hand)

O-EM-GEE! That is all I can think of as I left the theatre. Such an amazing film, from the visuals to the colorization, to the fashion, to the technology, and even the emotional effect! (Okay, yes I teared up a bit) Black Panther was amazingly well done.

But to the star that shined so bright in my eyes is Shrui, the sister of T'Challa. During this moment, (It was literally during this actual scene of the photo you see below) where It hit me that I was watching an African American woman working the $hi* out of technology. (Please excuse my french) In today's world, this relates to a small percentage of African American women working in the tech industry. (Side eye)

Shrui, embodied being powerful, a minority an not only being super intelligent but also being super involved in tech. It was enlightening to see her be excited about the continuously new tech creations she made for T'Challa. What stood out the most to me was her presentation. Did you notice her sense of style remained reframed, stunning, and simple? (Okay, this is the fashion side coming out)

Shrui represented what Hoodies & Heels is about, a woman working in technology and understanding the feminity.

I've been there, having the mentality not caring to impress someone because of my work environment. I must say, it ends up being not fun and we soon learned that we've slowly given up on ourselves.

Usually, there are three tips or tricks I'll share expressing my views on a particular subject. But this time around nothing is hitting me. But, I will like to leave you with three positive viewpoints I gathered from Shrui in Black Panther:

  1. Technology Is Unique: Not everyone can figure out technology, hell I'm still coding every night. But, when it's YOUR playground, something you love and you know you are good at it no one can take that from you! The beauty is standing tall and embracing that you working in an environment that technically isn't catered to you but you are damn sure good at it. You are unique, embrace it.
  2. Style Is Receptive: As an Image Consultant, I've learned how people communicate towards presence. I never believe in being over the top or portraying as something you are not. Yet, I believe in presentation opening the door for you to receive respect. People respond to how you present yourself. Shrui showed so much excitement showing her bother all of the cool gadgets she created all while wearing a dress and sneakers. It's all a balance.
  3. Keep Going: Were you excited as I was?I literally had chills not only because I've now found a new love for tech but because what's clear on the screen is people's reality. No matter what, as a minority you have to keep going and pushing for what's right and of course what you love to do! Let no one take your shine away and doubt your decision on love such a great industry.
