How are you!? I hope you are well. So, prior to this post, I focused on the key to networking. Networking is important for your career especially working in the tech industry, it never hurts to meet like-minded people.
If you haven't done so each week I try to update the Events section of the blog. I believe networking is key and to be honest there are some AMAZING events out there you should check out.
I post events that I feel are all tech related yet with much purpose and keeps the passion alive. (This is simply no offense to other events out there, everyone has a seat at the table)
Through a friend, (whom I met at a past networking event btw!) informed me of an upcoming event presented by Lyft.
As an avid Lyft user, of course, I was interested but what truly caught my attention was the title, "Black & Latina Tech Mixer". Say what now?
Love love love, Lyft working towards connecting people in the tech industry but more so at a diverse level. Many of you may not know but my family hails from Panama. (Si, yo hablo espanol, BAM! lol) As you know, I love everyone but I wholeheartedly feel that certain cultures will share more similarities and vice versa. The tech industry has so much growing to do, To be in a room amongst intellectual minorities that love working in an industry that can bring so much change felt uplifting.
The event was held in Harlem, at Red Rooster. The decor was sleek, sophisticated, and provided enough space to fit all of the great people who came out. The night was FILLED with amazing people from different tech backgrounds connecting and reflecting. I met developers from different startups, two dope colleagues from Zoc Doc and a current employee at Lyft, hey Max! (lol, super cool guy)
Lyft, provided personalized imprinted journals on standing tables for people to take away. To me, I took away from it as a way for us to continue following our dreams, no matter what you want to continue writing it down and checking the list off as you go!
Last but not least, the incredible band that played at the event was AMAZING! I appreciated their energy and how they set a comfortable aura.
I had a ball and super happy I was able to experience the first an hopefully not the last event presented by Lyft.
Now, go out there an network!
